Gebhard joined AIESEC in 2000, worked in the Incoming Exchange team and became the Local Committee President of Europe's then largest Local Committee (Vienna) in 2001. He loved to support other Executive Board teams through chairing local and national conferences in Germany, Slovakia, Estonia, Romania and Costa Rica. His passion for AIESEC's values and vision continues long after his active time. He maintains strong personal and mentor relationships with AIESECers from the decade 2000-2010 in Austria and beyond. Knowing the compatibility of AIESECs and Teach For Austria values, he brought several former AIESECers to his team in the past years.
As stated in the latest Education and Training Monitor published by the European Commission, Austria is still a country in which the socio-economic background of the parents determine a child’s opportunities much more than their actual potentials. Challenging the status quo, enabling educational equity and giving the same opportunities to ALL - not only the privileged but also the disadvantaged, most vulnerable - children is crucial to a just, fair and thus peaceful future. Teach For Austria works towards this vision by helping children from the poorest backgrounds to achieve their ambitions. Since the foundation of Teach For Austria in 2012 Gebhard Ottacher has worked actively to succeed in this mission by bringing innovation to the Austrian education system.
Gebhard is co-CEO of Teach For Austria. Prior to joining Teach For Austria in 2012 he worked as investment manager for Raiffeisen Holding NÖ-Wien and as strategy consultant for Booz & Company (now part of PwC). Gebhard was a guest lecturer in a strategy and innovation at the German Universities of Nuremberg and Leipzig between 2008 and 2015. He holds degrees in history and public administration from the University of Vienna and Harvard´s Kennedy School of Government. He has two sons. He is a book lover, hiker and chess player.
